Rabbi Nolan Lebovitz is proud to serve as the Rabbi of Adat Shalom in West LA.  Over the past several years, he has worked with the community to develop innovative children’s activities and adult programs, provide meaningful services, and re-establish a religious school, the Adat Shalom Jewish Education Center.

Prior to the rabbinate, Rabbi Lebovitz enjoyed a 10-year career in the film industry as a writer, director, and producer. Most notably, Rabbi Lebovitz wrote and directed the 2008 suspense-thriller “Tortured,” starring Laurence Fishburne, Cole Hauser and James Cromwell.

Rabbi Lebovitz continues to make films that explore the essence of Judaism. He is the writer, director, and producer of two highly regarded documentaries: “Roadmap Genesis” and “Roadmap Jerusalem.”  “Roadmap Jerusalem” (2018) teaches about the connection between the Jewish People and Jerusalem, while “Roadmap Genesis” (2015) explores the meaning of Torah in society today and the powerful lessons of the Book of Genesis.

While in Rabbinical School, Rabbi Lebovitz became a national board member of MERCAZ, the Zionist political arm of the Conservative Movement, and he is proud to have served as a delegate at the World Zionist Congress in Jerusalem in 2015.  Currently, he also serves as a member of the Masorti Rabbinic Cabinet, which strengthens Conservative Masorti Judaism in the State of Israel.  Rabbi Lebovitz also serves as a volunteer Chaplain for the Santa Monica Police Department.

A grandchild of four prevailers of the Shoah (Holocaust), Rabbi Lebovitz was born and raised in the suburbs outside of Chicago. He was ordained by the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies at American Jewish University. He earned his Bachelors Degree from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinema-Television.  He is currently pursuing his PhD in Religion from Claremont Graduate University.
